Gas Oven Service
A gas oven service is a careful process, which should be done regularly to maintain the working order of your gas oven. A Gas Safe engineer has the necessary knowledge and skills to perform servicing, as well as making sure that appliances are not under the risk of later releasing poisonous gases like carbon monoxide. Before a gas oven service, the gas supply valve is completely switched off and there should be sufficient space made for the engineer to work in.
The engineer begins the gas oven service by removing the shelves and looking for food debris in the burner slots or jets. Any obstructions are cleared with a brush or a thinner rod, if they are stubborn. One factor to remember is that during this clearing process, it is important to make sure that the ignition probe and phial that cross over the burner are not accidentally damaged or dislodged. Underneath the burner, the engineer will search the main jet and primary air vault for any more debris. When relighting the appliance, following the gas oven service session, there should be defined blue flames rather than yellow, uneven flames. In some cases, the oven can be set to high, to check that the flame lifts, then back to low. The oven door is then closed and, after 10 minutes, is reopened and checked to see that the flame has dropped to simmer.
