Who do I get to install my gas cooker?
By law any gas appliance must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer.  The Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey, appointed by the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each area. It is lawfully mandatory that all gas engineers operating in the UK must be on the Gas Safe Register.

Can I install my gas cooker myself?
If you are considering undertaking the gas cooker installation process on your own or from an unlicensed engineer in order to save on costs it is important to have an awareness of the legalities you will be obstructing and why it is always recommended to use a gas safe engineer in the interest of you and your family’s safety. By undertaking the gas cooker fitting yourself without any Gas Safety accreditation you could leave your appliance with a gas leak and your home in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.

How much does a gas cooker fitting cost?
Gas cooker fitting costs vary depending on the area you live in and the type of cooker you wish to install. For instance a range cooker installation can cost anywhere from £90 to £140. In addition to this, engineers that are not Gas Safe registered will typically charger a much lower rate than Gas Safe engineers. This is a tactic used to undercut Gas Safe approved professionals who have paid for the Gas Safe course and have undertaken the necessary training. So whilst they do charge more, the additional cost is justified as you can’t put a price on your family’s safety.
