A cooker servicing is important for a number of reasons; a gas cooker, oven or hob is used every day in the home, and depending on the workload can wear faster than other appliances. Simple faults in a cooker are easy and inexpensive to fix. However, if the faults are ignored it can be detrimental, resulting in the replacement of a new cooker, oven or hob.
The most important reason for a having a cooker serving is to check if the appliance is safe to use and that there are no defects. It is also important to ensure there are no Carbon Monoxide leaks; if this goes undetected it could prove dangerous to you and your family.
It is recommended that you have a cooker service annually. A cooker service usually takes about 30-45 minutes to complete.

What is checked during a cooker service?
- Check appliance for gas tightness
- Check the appliance is working at the correct gas pressure
- Check that all safety devices are working correctly
- Check the satisfactory operation of all the flame failure devices
- Check flame pitcher is good – should be clear blue flame
- Check to ensure the piping is rigid and not flexible hose (built in hobs only)
- Check for signs of unsafe or irresponsible operation
- Check that stability brackets are correctly installed where required (freestanding cookers only)
- Check burner hobs
- Check gas injectors
- Ensure good combustion is taking place
- Check the oven doors have a good seal (freestanding cookers only)
- Perform any other gas safety checks as required by manufacturers instructions
- Verify that the appliance is safe to use
