UK landlords are legally required to have gas works and a gas safety certificates completed and signed in full. Only professional gas engineers will recognise faults of any degree. Your gas appliance’s condition will be restored and dangerous gas risks and bills will be greatly reduced. Gas poisoning is one of UK’s biggest killers. Carbon Monoxide is tasteless, colourless and odourless, which heightens its lethalness. Symptoms vary and can often be mistaken for flu/cold. In the event of a gas poisoning related death, the failure of obtaining a gas safety certificate, your landlord will face manslaughter charges.
During the safety check, the engineer will inspect all gas appliances, flues and pipe work in your rented property. They will record their findings in the gas safety certificates, plus a small note of concerns. Always ask to see his/her I.D card. It will show whether they are qualified and under the Gas Safe register. If neither is found or they fail to provide a fail I.D card, they are illegal engineers and are not permitted to complete a gas safety certificate.
